It is commonly used in patients with irregular heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation) and in people who have undergone knee or hip replacement surgeries to prevent and reduce the risk of clot formation. It belongs to group of medicines called anticoagulant or blood thinner. The most common side effect of Xarelto is bleeding more easily than normal, for example, having nosebleeds or bruising.
